Annual Grants

Orcas Island Community Foundation’s primary goal is to improve the quality of life on Orcas Island. To accomplish this goal, OICF distributes grants from The Community
Endowment Fund on an annual basis. The grants are supplemented with funds from our “Partners in Philanthropy.”

generosity2017 Annual Grant recipients are listed below.

  • Art for Orcas Kids (A-OK) / OIEF: $5,300 to bring teaching artists to public K-8 classes.
  • Early Childhood Education Initiative: $30,000 for all Orcas young children to have access to great preschool education
  • Debate Team / OIEF: $5,000 for competition support for the Orcas High School Debate Team.
  • Island Reproductive Health Initiative: $2,400 to provide reproductive health care for those who cannot pay.
  • KWIAHT: $3,100 for Orcas ecosystems 101; biology and stewardship for families.
  • Olga Strawberry Council: $5,000 to return the historic Marshall Strawberry to Orcas Island Farms.
  • OPAL Community Land Trust: $25,000 to build capacity to advocate for affordable housing.
  • Orcas Animal Protection Society: $2,000 for low-cost spay/neuter program for dogs of low-income islanders.
  • Orcas Center: $2,500 to purchase a listening-assist system.
  • Orcas Community Resource Center: $33,000 to expand social service support for vulnerable islanders.
  • Orcas Island Food Bank: $6,000 for an emergency backup generator.
  • OISD Counselor: $26,000 for an elementary school social worker to promote and enhance the learning process.
  • OISD Elementary School: $9,437 for classroom set of Chromebooks, printer, and charging station.
  • OISD High School: $2,495 for a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine for high school science.
  • OISD Primary Intervention Program: $8,000 for a safe place to learn for K-3 children.
  • Orcas Senior Center: $10,000 to identify the needs of islanders wishing to age in place.
  • Orcasong: $2,500 to promote regenerative farming and education for a sustainable world.
  • SAFE San Juans: $15,000 for effecting social change through anti-violence education.
  • Sail Orcas: $2,500 for all-weather sailing gear for Sail Orcas program participants.
  • San Juan County Economic Development Council: $6,580 for the Trades Education Initiative: Construction Technology Program.
  • San Juan Islands Conservation District: $2,300 for the Orcas Youth Conservation Corps work in the Orcas Village Green and Moran State Park.
  • SeaDoc Society: $2,500 for healing the Salish Sea ecosystem through science and education.
  • Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center: $4,010 to provide food and medical care for harbor seal pup rehabilitation.
  • Youth Philanthropy Program recipients: TBA
